When it comes to understanding the impact that Lyme Disease has on the lives of individuals and families, there’s no better source of reference than going straight to the proverbial horse’s mouth. That’s why in October of 2014, we launched “The Big Green Heart Tour” – a campaign to bring awareness to the eight hundred and twenty-two people diagnosed with Lyme Disease every single day.
In thirty days we traveled over 10,000 miles and interviewed more than seventy Lyme Fighters in over twenty states. And that was just our first trip! We hope to do many more. In fact, our goal is to show people the impact that one single day has on the lives of eight hundred and twenty-two people, which is why we’re going to keep planning trips until we’ve met and interviewed eight hundred and twenty-two Lyme Fighters.
Check out the gallery below to learn about the Lyme Fighters we’ve met so far (more pictures coming soon!)and subscribe to our YouTube channel to be the first to know when we’ve started posting the interviews (coming May 2015).
Hadley, Logan and Linda
November 2, 2014: Made it out to Ashburn, Virginia after being contacted by super-dad and supportive ex-husband, Corky, who reached out on behalf of his two children and ex-wife who all suffer from Lyme Disease. We had such a wonderful time getting to know this beautiful family who have all come together in support of each other, and we were delighted to hear Logan (16) and Hadley (13) talking about taking an active roll in their recovery by choosing to avoid sugar and processed foods. After many years of misdiagnoses (Hashimoto's, POTS, PANDAS) and being dismissed by various doctors despite progressive and debilitating symptoms, Hadley was diagnosed with Lyme in 2013 after having to drop out of school where she once played volleyball and cheered. Shortly thereafter both mom, Linda, and Logan were diagnosed. Logan continues to go to school but struggles with pain and fatigue and relies on a strict diet and IV therapies to continue to play basketball. The three make a point to stick to a gluten, dairy, and low sugar diet to ease their chronic pain and reduce fatigue. Father, Corky, is their number one advocate and does all he can to help support his family both emotionally and financially as they make strides towards recovery. We can't thank this lovely bunch enough for taking the time to meet with us and wish everyone continued strength and healing.
